Major revamp for PMA young employees’ program

March 15, 2011:PMA Australia has made significant changes to its program for younger members of the photo industry, including a name change from ‘Young Achievers’ to ‘Future Leaders Program‘.

The new leadership program changes from a competition to an industry workshop program in which all participants are recognised and presented as ‘Future Leaders’ of the industry.

This change will see a series of free one-day Leadership Workshops held in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, where participants will be trained in self-development, and presentation and management skills.

The Young Achiever programs’ long-time training partner, The Friedman Group, will undertake these special workshops. The Friedman Group’s training was recognised by nearly every previous winner as being of great value to their personal development.

The change from a competition-based program was based on a sense at PMA that nominating just one winner from many applicants was ‘short changing the long term future of the industry’.

‘The new Future Leaders program will ensure ALL entrants will receive fantastic training that will benefit many organisations as well as the industry as a whole,’ states the PMA press release.

There will be an ‘Exceptional Future Leader’ chosen at each workshop and given a certificate of recognition. All Future Leader participants will be given a complimentary Best Value Pass to the Entertainment & Imaging Expo and Conference in June, where they can add to their training and knowledge by attending conference sessions.

Each attendee will be recognised and presented with their certificate at the Friday evening industry event.

Another significant change is that the program now covers all areas of the industry, not just retail. The age range has also been expanded to allow participation by people up to 30 years of age, giving participants from previous years’ Young Achiever Programs the chance to attend the workshops and continue to develop their skills.

The Future leadership program is open to:
– All industry employees aged 18-30 years old;
– All sectors of the photographic industry;
– Camera, print processing or framing retail businesses;
– Photo labs, school and professional photographers;
– Wholesale supply companies;
– Equipment manufacturers and repair agencies;
– Full-time, part-time and casual employees.

Applicants must have been employed in the photographic industry for a minimum of 12 months, and their employers must be PMA members

The entry form for the Future Leaders program will be available via download from the PMA Australia website this week.
