Auspost orders 100 more DNP photo printers

Local DNP printer distributor JA Davey has kicked off 2023 with a major expansion of its installed base of passport photo printers in to Australia Post outlets.

Australia Post has ordered another 100 DNP dye sub printers for its ID photo services.

There are over 1500 DNP printers installed in all Australia Post-operated outlets and selected Licensed Post Offices (LPIs), with the new order for an extra 100 units. JA Davey supplies printer consumables as well.

DFAT requires passport photos from ‘Photographic process that uses dye sublimation only’, without spelling out the reasons for the preference.Perhaps variability in image and archival qualities in the almost infinite variety of inkjet papers and inks tips the balance in favour of dye-sub systems.

With a total of 4300 Australia Post outlets across Australia, there’s potential for more installations in future, particularly with ‘ID and Document Services’ a growing, topline segment of Australia Post’s business. SA, NT and WA already channel driver’s licence renewals through Australia Post, along with SA firearms licences and national Keypass IDs to confirm age and identity.

Australia Post is also offering a Digital ID service – personal information, including biometric (image) data, is encrypted and stored for future ID applications.
