Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN C for Sony E, L mount

Sigma has announced the 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary, a new ‘kit lens’ for E and L mount, will be available in November with pricing set around $770.

Compact and with a weight of only 290 grams, the new standard-range zoom lens is ideal for a wide range of photo and video applications including landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture and events. Combined with the pocket-sized full-frame, the Sigma FP, the set up weighs just 712 grams.

The APS-C lens for crop-sensor mirrorless cameras optical design comprises 13 elements in 10 groups. This includes three glass-moulded aspherical elements, plus one element made from Special Low-Dispersion glass to ensure optimal image quality without excessive weight.

Autofocusing is driven by a fast and quiet stepping motor, making the lens ideal for use while recording video. Focusing is entirely internal, allowing it to support DMF and AF+MF modes. It is also compatible with in-camera lens aberration corrections.

The barrel is made from lightweight Thermally Stable Composite (TSC), which has a thermal conductivity close to that of aluminum to ensure stable performance and good operability when used in changing temperatures. Using metal for some of the internal structure, the parts could be significantly thinner and have a higher rigidity, so the lens can undergo heavy use. A durable brass bayonet mount with a dust and splash-resistant design provides a secure connection to the camera.

Other features include:
– Super Multi-Layer Coating;
– Petal type lens hood (LH582-02);
– Compatible with SIGMA USB DOCK UD-11 (sold separately / for L-Mount only);
– Every lens undergoes Sigma’s proprietary MTF measuring system;
– 7-blade rounded diaphragm
