Sony a no-show at Show

April 7, 2011: Sony Australia has opted not to exhibit at this year’s PMA Imaging & Entertainment show at Darling Harbour, June 24 – 26.

‘Sony’s focus for promoting its digital imaging range is at key international conferences such as CES and PMA, as well as retailer-specific expos and our own roadshows,’ Sony responded to a query by Photo Counter.

‘The timing of the PMA Digital Life show unfortunately does not fit in with the timing of our products’ lifecycles.’

While Sony says it never made a commitment to exhibit at the Imaging & Entertainment show, it appears PMA were anticipating a change of heart, as the consumer electronics giant had been allocated a large and prominent display space right at the entrance to the exhibition halls near the Nikon and Canon stands. This space will now be occupied by an exhibition of images, according to show organiser, John Bourne.

In previous years, the photo exhibition complementing the equipment exhibition has predominantly been outside the exhibition halls in the public foyer and walkways.

Sony joins Kodak (and its key distributor APS), Samsung and Sanyo as major players in the digital imaging industry who have chosen not to participate in this years’ event. Other leading names such as Apple, Adobe and Whitech are also not participating under their own banner, but may be represented on affiliated stands.

On the other hand, Adeal, which had chosen to conduct its own roadshows over the past two years as an alternative to the annual equipment exhibition, has returned this year.

PMA was unable to provide a statement prior to Photo Counter‘s weekly newsletter being published.
