Olympus has announced the Stylus SH-2 ultra-zoom travel compact camera featuring a f3.8-8.7 25-600mm aspherical zoom lens and a 1/2.3-inch 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, the superior Olympus 5-Axis Image Stabilisation system, and PEN-like retro design.
The SH-2 also shoots RAW, rare for a long zoom compact, along with manual exposure control, a combination which will appeal to more knowledgeable photographers.
The SH-2 incorporates Wi-Fi for social sharing and wireless camera control, and a new Nightscape mode, which, according to Olympus ‘helps you take the best night-time shots possible with a compact camera.’
The 24x compact zoom lens is an ideal all rounder as it covers wide landscapes and architecture, and also distant sport, nature and stage performances. It is complemented by 5-Axis optical Image Stabilisation (IS) technology for more sharp shots.
The 5-Axis Hybrid IS (optical and digital IS) also provides superbly stable movies recorded even when you’re walking, on a bumpy train, or when filming from a moving car.
The top panel and main controls are constructed of aluminum alloy, with the classic-looking design available in either silver and black or black.

US-based website DPReview has already had the opportunity to trial the Stylus SH-2 and made the following conclusions:
While not a ‘true’ Olympus PEN camera, the Stylus SH-2 is more than yet another compact superzoom. Its biggest feature is true 5-axis image stabilization, which you won’t find on any other camera in its class.
While it has plenty of party tricks, such as Art Filters, when you combine its classic design with Raw support and features like Live Composite, one gets the impression that this little superzoom is aimed toward a more advanced crowd than the majority of cameras in its class.
