Nikkor Z DX 24mm f1.7: First APS-C for Z

Nikon has announced the new Nikkor Z DX 24mm f1.7 wide angle APS-C format lens will be available at some stage in the future, with a pre-order from Nikon Australia priced at $498.

Inside Imaging readers will be familiar with our petty gripe over camera companies refusing to disclose an RRP or pricing. It’s possibly because they don’t want pricing to be a talking point that may overshadow features, but how much something costs is an important factor.

But rarely do they forego mentioning when the product will even be available, as this pertinent information informs customers when they can get their hands on the goods. It will be available in the US from mid-June.

The 24mm f1.7 prime lens is Nikon’s first APS-C size (DX) lens for Z models, offering a field of view amounting to 36mm on a full frame camera.

“The NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 is a perfect lightweight companion designed for everyday use. NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 PRIMARY FEATURES

Creativity your way

Get ready to elevate your portraiture photography with the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7. Easily create stunning portraits with dreamy bokeh to highlight your subjects with the lens’ maximum aperture of f/1.7 and short minimum focus distance of 0.18m. Users can also draw attention to their subjects while recording videos, thanks to the contrast between the sharp focal plane and the smoothly blurred background.

Capturing beautiful photos during the elusive golden hour is made simple with the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7. The lens’ maximum aperture is bright enough to capture even with lower ISO sensitivity and in low-light situations. In addition, users can shoot handheld with minimal image blur caused by camera shake or subject movement. The result produces beautiful stills and videos with high resolution, while effectively reducing noise for smoother images, thus providing users with more diverse shooting opportunities.

Picturing perspectives

Capture shots with variety in mind; whether it’s food photography, striking portraits, or dynamic landscapes, as the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 features a versatile focal length of 24mm [1] to cover a variety of scenes. With a short minimum focus distance of 0.18m, users can get up close to easily photograph everyday subjects like food and flowers, without being too far away to focus on the subject. The combination of the minimum focus distance of 0.18 m and the maximum aperture of f/1.7 enables effective shooting of flowers and other still subjects with large background bokeh, enabling the subject to stand out.

Ready, steady, shoot

Shoot videos without worrying about disruption from unnecessary operational sounds, thanks to the smooth and quiet operation of the lens’ STM and ‘click-less’ control ring. With the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7, you can shoot with confidence when capturing spontaneous moments.

Users can also record videos with a natural shift in focus position and brightness level with effective focus-breathing [2] compensation from the lens. Even when the focus point shifts from one subject to another, the angle of view is maintained, creating smooth and natural videos with stable exposure.

Light in weight, big on usability

Compact in size yet packed with features, the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 weighs approximately 135g and makes for the perfect daily companion for users to keep in their bag for easy access whilst travelling. Even when the lens is attached to a camera, such as the Z 30, the set-up would only weigh 540g. Rounding up the features of the lens is the compact design that narrows slightly toward the tip to accentuate its compact size.
