Epson launches new A3+ inkjet printer

Epson Australia has launched the SureColor SC-P600, an A3+, 9-cartridge inkjet printer, which is aimed at amateur and semi-professional photographers.

SC-P600_600[1]The SureColor SC-P600 features a new UltraChrome HD pigment inkset. The full set is: photo black, cyan, vivid magenta, yellow, light cyan, vivid light magenta, light black, matte black, light-light black. Cartridge size is 25.9 ml (which Epson in its press release characterises as ‘generous’). Epson says the Ultrachrome HD inkset can reproduce a wide colour gamut, with a 2.84 DMax – ‘the industry’s highest black density’ (on specific papers).

The SC-P600 also features auto-switching of black inks, enabling the printer to automatically switch between photo and matte black inks to optimise output based on the media type chosen. Photo black is for glossy photographic papers while matte black is, as the name implies, for matte surface media.

With the SC-P600’s ‘Advanced Black-and-White Photo Mode’ users can choose from one of four pre-set modes – neutral, warm, cool, or sepia – for selectively-toned monochrome prints. This feature is controlled through custom slider bars and a colour tone wheel for advanced tone adjustment. Customised settings can be saved and recalled to achieve consistent prints, and using the optional downloadable Epson Print Layout software, users can automatically preview images with the selected settings.

The new printer provides Wi-Fi Direct wireless printing connectivity from smartphones, tablets and PCs. Epson Connect is supported, along with Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint.

Epson rates the P600 as outputting a 13 x 9 inch print in 2 mins, 33seconds. Twin paper paths enable A3+ printing on a wide variety of photo and fine art papers, canvas and thick media, while the machine’s roll-paper capability provides for panoramic images.

Australian RRP is A$1499.
