ASUS has announced a new lineup of graphics-oriented computers including the ProArt StudioBook One: ‘the world’s most graphically powerful laptop’ and an 4K, HDR monitor for photographers and videographers.
‘Graphically powerful’? Apparently this is because its the ‘only laptop to feature NVIDIA’s industry-leading Quadro RTX 6000 pro graphics.’ (‘RTX Studio laptops are precision crafted to deliver dramatic improvements in productivity and performance across everyday creative apps.’) Elsewhere in the launch press release an ASUS executive anoints it as ‘the world’s fastest laptop’.
It also features 2.4GHz Intel Core i9-9980HK processors, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. (The aforementioned Quadro RTX 6000 also comes with 24GB of RAM as well.)
The 15.6-inch, 120Hz 4K display has 100 percent AdobeRGB coverage.
It will cost a bomb, but probably less than the latest Apple Macbook Pro it is positioned to compete with.
It’s the flagship model, with another three lesser-specced ProArt ‘puters – including a desktop PC – accompanying it in the last quarter of this year. All have some version of the super-duper RTX GPU technology.
The 32-inch, 1600-nit, 4K, HDR, ProArt Display PA32UCG will compete with the Apple ProDisplay XDR in both performance and price – although ASUS is apparently doesn’t add and extra $1000 for the stand!
ASUS also announced a professional-standard standalone monitor, the ProArt Display PA32UCG, ‘the world’s first HDR 1600 and 120Hz variable-refresh rate professional display.’
It features 4K UHD resolution and mini LED backlighting that ASUS reckons ‘delivers industry leading brightness and colour performance for the critical visual workflows of filmmakers, broadcasters and game developers.’ It is VESA pre-certified for DisplayHDR 1400, the industry’s latest and highest standard of HDR performance.
It has the power of three separate suns: ‘…featuring 1152 individual mini LED backlights with local dimming that enable 1000 nits of full-screen sustained brightness, 1600 nits of peak brightness and a 1000,000:1 contrast ratio.’
It has a sufficiently wide colour gamut to support the DCI-P3, Adobe RGB, sRGB, Rec. 709 and Rec. 2020 colour spaces.
