Head On’s Vision 2020 to tour NSW

The Head On Foundation is presenting Vision 2020, a touring photo exhibition which explores the experiences and challenges faced by NSW communities last year. Vision 2020 opens on May 1 at the Southern Highlands Artisan Collective in Robertson, just opposite the big potato, until May 31.

Head On invited NSW-based photographers to participate in Vision 2020 by submitting photos that shows contemporary life in Australia’s most populous state. Particular focus was on the ‘complex recovery process’, as well as the shared struggles and collective resilience and rebuilding. The project is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW as part of Arts Restart, hence the NSW-centric approach!

The outcome is a fine selection of 20 images covering a diverse range of relevant topics, from both emerging and established photographers.

Exhibiting artists include Alyson Bell, David Hufton, Fabian Muir, Fla Rossler, Hamish Ta-mé, James Cole, Jenny Papalexandris, John Janson-Moore, Jon Hart, Julia Coddington, Lisa Hogben, Lisa Sorgini, Max Stewart, Natalie Grono, Raja Islam, Sam Ferris, Sam St Jon, Tim Johnson, Tom Williams, and Tony Naumovski

‘The Head On curatorial team had the difficult task of selecting only 20 images for the exhibition. We received photos that were astounding, humorous, shocking, heartbreaking,’ said Head On’s artistic director, Moshe Rosenzveig. ‘We thank all photographers for sharing glimpses with us of what must have been very profound, distressing, life-changing experiences.’

Vision 2020 is accompanied by a 96-page hard-cover book which includes all exhibited photographs, plus an extra 20 images from the project.

The Covid-19 pandemic hit the arts sector hard in Australia. Head On Foundation highlights it’s thankful to receive funding to support emerging and established photographers by providing them artist fees and free exhibition opportunities. After the Southern Highlands, 2020 Vision will show at the Central Coast in June and then Sydney for Head On Photo Festival 2021 in November.
