Nikon USA launches ‘Creator’s Hour’ video series

Nikon USA has launched Creator’s Hour, a series of free hour-long online videos featuring ‘Nikon Ambassadors’ discussing their craft and a dive deep into the stories behind the favourite images they have shot.

A Zoom party with Nikon ambassadors, Dave Black and Michael Corrado.

The videos are designed to keep photographers inspired and ‘safely entertained’ while spending some good ol’ time at home, and will cover numerous areas of interest. Photographers include Pulitzer Prize-winners Lynsey Addario and Carol Guzy, Wildlife photographer Joel Sartore, National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry, portrait photographer Joe McNally, conservation photographer Ami Vitale, and many other Nikon US ambassadors.

There are other projects in the pipeline, notably a series called ‘My Defining Images’, where ambassadors talk via Zoom about their favourite images; and Instagram Live at Home, where two Nikon photographers chat about a range of topics.

While the videos are broadcast live for viewers, they can also be played back and many are now available to view.

And after watching the latest My Defining Images session with sports photographer, Dave Black, Inside Imaging can report the video wasn’t a blatant Nikon advertorial. Black’s discussion about his five favourite photos is quite detailed and interesting, with a balance of ‘gear talk’ regarding how he captured his photos, along with the stories behind them. Not a bad way to kill an hour.

There are other video series, such as the awkward-sounding Creativity Challenges and Moments of Zen.

‘During these unprecedented times when we are all looking for human connection, photography has the power to bring us closer together, even when we are apart. Through Creator’s Hour, Nikon is helping creators of all levels find ways to stay inspired, to learn and be entertained safely from their homes,’ said Jay Vannatter, Nikon USA executive vice president. ‘Regardless of a person’s skill level, there’s something for everyone, whether they are looking to learn the fundamentals of photography or seeking an opportunity to push their creativity to new levels.’
