New affordable Sigma 100-400mm f5-6.3 for Sony

Sigma has announced the 100-400mm f5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary ultra telephoto zoom lens, available for Sony and L-Mount mirrorless full-frame cameras, will be available from the end of August for $1399.

Sigma states the lens has been designed exclusively for mirrorless full-frame cameras.

‘With the optics design specifically for a camera with a short flange back distance, the DG DN series of lenses achieves a supreme combination of optical performance and compactness that could not have been possible with lenses for single-lens reflex cameras.’

The lens weighs 1.14KG, and is made up of 22 elements in 16 groups, including one FLD (low dispersion) and four SLD (special low dispersion) elements for effective correction of aberrations and distortions. It has a nine-blade aperture rounded diaphragm.

A stepping motor system is optimised with the ‘latest algorithm’ for high-speed AF, and in-built Image Stabilisation of four steps is also incorporated. ‘When combined with a camera body with image stabilisation built in, the lens corrects for pitch and yaw axis rotations, providing even more powerful image stabilisation,’ Sigma said.

New teleconverters, three lenses for L-Mount
Sigma has also announced the launch of three new lenses for L-Mount mirrorless cameras, the 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary, 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary, and 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary.

‘These L-Mount series lenses have achieved high-speed AF and are fully compatible with AF-C mode, in-camera image stabilisation, and in-camera aberration correction. Featuring the compact, lightweight, and outstanding image quality concepts of the Contemporary line, the large-aperture F1.4 series lenses are available to be enjoyed on L-Mount cameras.’

But wait, there’s more! Sigma has unveiled the Teleconverter TC-1411 and TC-2011 also for L-mount. The TC-1411 magnifies the camera’s focal length by 1.4x, and the TC-2011 by 2x.

The dust and splash-proof construction is comparable to Sigma’s Sports line of lenses, which are able to withstand harsh outdoor environments.
