Dye-sub mini printer from Polaroid

Local distributor Brands Australia has announced the Polaroid Hi-Print, its first personal printer using dye-sub printing technology.

It’s designed specifically to print via Bluetooth from smartphones – with apps in both Android and iOS flavours – and has no cables, so you will need to transfer camera image files to a smartphone or tablet to get them printed.

Dye-sub printing should deliver better image quality than other Polaroid-branded printers which use ZINK printing technology. The Polaroid Hi-Print weighs in under 300g and outputs 2×3-inch (54x86mm) prints with an adhesive back for scrapbooking, sticking on lockers or fridges, etc. The dye-sub prints are fade-resistant and waterproof. Each all-in-one cartridge contains a colour ribbon and 10 sheets of photo paper. Prints emerge in less than a minute.

The free Hi-Print app also enables you to edit your shots with tools such as filters, overlays, frames, and text.

It will be available in Australia with release late September. Local RRP is $199.95, while the Hi-Print paper cartridges are $29.95 for a pack of 20, consisting of 2 cartridges.
