Australian Tamron distributor, Blonde Robot, has revealed the 70-180mm f2.8 Di III VXD telephoto zoom lens for Sony E mount will be available from May with an RRP of $2399.
Tamron’s describing the 70-180mm f2.8 as both compact and light weight (810g), with a filter diameter of 67mm.
In terms of the optical construction, there are 19 elements in 14 groups. That includes a total of six XLD (extra low dispersion) and LD (low dispersion) lens elements combined, and three GM (glass moulded aspherical) and hybrid aspherical lens elements combined.
The lens has Tamron’s first-ever linear motor AF drive focus mechanism, a VXD aka Voice-coil extreme-torque drive. While operating fast, the drive maintains positional accuracy down to .0005mm – or, one tenth of the width of a human hair.
