Tamron’s ‘new concept’ full-frame compatible 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD (Model A043) zoom lens will be available locally, from May/June for $1399.
The lens, available for Nikon F (May 23) and Canon EF (June 20) through Tamron distributor Blonde Robot, bridges the gap between a standard and high-power zoom.
Tamron is pitching the lens as something new – a portraiture ‘all rounder’: ‘For the first time, a dedicated portrait lens that allows you to zoom through various composition options as the creative ideas zoom through your head. The 35-150mm F/2.8-4 Di VC OSD (Model A043) zoom lens is based on the new concept of allowing you to concentrate on a wide range of portrait compositions without the interruption of pausing to change lenses,‘ the Tamron US website explains.
‘The versatile zoom range incorporates the 85mm focal length (often regarded as optimum for portrait shooting) and covers everything from full-body shots that include the surrounding area to sharp head-and-shoulders shots. With this single lens you can make the most of every moment you spend with any subject.’
It has three optimally placed LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements and three hybrid aspherical lenses quash various optical aberrations. The result provides the high levels of sharpness and contrast that Tamron says can handle today’s high-resolution (50-megapixel) digital cameras.
A fluorine coating with water and oil repellant qualitities, along with a moisture resistant construction, ensures the lens is protected in adverse outdoor weather conditions.
Autofocus is quiet, fast and precise due to an Optimised Silent Drive (OSD) DC motor. It’s the same motor that’s used in the Tamron 17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di OSD, which reduces drive noise much better than compared to DC motor-equipped lenses.
AF performance is further improved thanks to the Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) system, which achieves 5-stops of vibration compensation. This dedicated image stabilisation is ideal for shooting at the telephoto end, when camera movement is magnified.
The Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 is designed for fast handling, weighing 790 grams (Nikon version) or 796 grams (Canon version).
Tamron also offers a mount adapter for Canon and Nikon full-frame mirrorless cameras.
