How good is this new Tamron lens!

Tamron has announced a new lens in its premium SP series – the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD (Model F045) – which is is describing as ‘the finest lens in Tamron’s history’. It will be available in a few weeks time in Nikon mount and late July in Canon mount.
Tamron lens 35mmPhotographers have been the winners with the decision by Tamron with the SP range and Sigma with its Art lenses to design and build optics to compete with the premium prime lenses from Canon and Nikon. And now Sony. Not only do they generally perform extremely well, according to a plethora of lens tests and product reviews, but they punch well above their weight from a price point of view. This must also keep a lid on the premium prices the camera makers dare place on their own lenses. Viva competition!  Sigma and Tamron have effectively smashed the monopoly on high quality lenses one buys into when choosing a professional camera body.

So for instance this new best-ever Tamron 35mm should be well under $2000, if the 929-pound UK price is anything to go by. (No local details as yet.) By comparison, the equivalent Canon EF 35mm f1.4L II USM is $2749, while the Nikkor AFS 35mm f1.4 G is $2899.

…But back to the topic at hand: ‘To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Tamron’s renowned SP series lenses that are designed and constructed to deliver the highest levels of performance, we drew upon our accumulated expertise and technologies to create the “ultimate lens” — the Model F045,’ the Tamron 35mm f1.4 press release states.

And just in case you missed the point: ‘Today we announce with sincere pride that the Model F045 embodies Tamron’s philosophy for manufacturing and is the finest lens in Tamron’s history.’  – OK,  we get it. It’s a really good lens!
