Synology unveils DiskStation DS419slim NAS

Synology has announced the DiskStation DS419slim, a four-bay NAS system with 2.5-inch drive support, will be available from the end of July with an RRP of $507.

The DiskStation DS419slim supports up to 20TB maximum capacity across four 2.5-inch HDD/SSD drive ports. It also features a USB 3.0 Port for connecting external drives.

Powered by a Marvell Armada dual-core 1.3GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, the system boasts solid performance. Synology claims it has data transfer speeds over 223 MB/s read and 94 MB/second write. However it won’t ramp up a big power bill, consuming only 20 watts during data access and 7 watts at HDD hibernation.

Synology is calling it a cube-shaped ultra-compact system – it’s less than 15cm in length and weighs just 700 grams.

RAID capabilities:
The compact unit offers Synology’s Hybrid RAID (SHR), along with Basic, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, JBOD. Hybrid Raid (SHR) is an easy-to-use automated RAID management system to create and expand storage volumes, plus 1 to 2-disk redundancy to safeguard your data during drive failures.

‘Nowadays, many people are still struggling with managing files scattered across public clouds, USB drives, or personal computers. As a clever and reliable personal cloud, DS419slim helps keep your precious photos, videos, and documents in order, bringing everything under control with its powerful file management capabilities,’ said Katarina Shao, product manager at Synology Inc. ‘Not only can you easily access, share, and synchronise all your files across multiple platforms, but you can also own a multimedia library where you can stream digital content on your mobile devices on the go.’

DS419slim runs on DiskStation Manager, an intuitive operating system for Synology NAS devices, with various applications offered to enhance work productivity.
