Nikon unveils first ultra-wide Z zoom

Nikon has announced the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f4 S, its first ultra-wide zoom lens for the new Z-mount full-frame systems.

The Nikkor Z 14-30mm f4 S, announced at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, has an overseas suggested retail price (SRP) of US$1299. It will be available in Autumn.

The lens weighs just under half a kilo, at 485 grams, and retracts to 3.5-inches making it 28 percent lighter and 32 percent shorter than the AF-S 16-35mm f4.

With a total of 14 elements, the new lens has four Extra-Low Disperson (ED) elements and four aspherical elements, along with anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat which reduces ghosting and flaring.

The lens features a Stepping Motor (STM) for a smooth, quiet and fast AF.

A customisable control ring allows allows photographers to switch between either manual focusing, exposure compensation or aperture control.

Other features include:
– Compatibility with In-Camera 5-Axis VR, providing up to five stops of image stablilsation;
– Flurine coating that repels dust, water, grease and dirt.

Nikon also unveiled a Z6 Filmmakers kit.

The kit, with a SRP at US$3999, includes the following:
A Nikon Z 6 camera, NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens, Mount Adapter FTZ, Atomos Ninja V 4K HDR 5” Monitor Recorder3, Rode VideoMic Pro+, MOZA Air 2 3-Axis Hand-Held Gimbal Stabilizer, an additional EN-EL15b battery, a coiled HDMI cable, 12-month Vimeo Pro membership, and The Art of Making Music Videos Nikon School online course featuring Nikon Ambassador Chris Hershman.
