DJI has announced the Osmo Pocket – what looks like a really useful three-axis stabilised compact camera offering 4K video and 12-megapixel stills (JPEG asnd DNG).
‘DJI Osmo Pocket is here to change the way photos and videos are captured, not just by professionals but by parents, couples, adventurers, travelers, and everyone in between,’ claimed Roger Luo, president at DJI.
The Osmo Pocket is just 10cm tall and weighs a mere 116g. It sports a 1/2.3-inch sensor and records 12-megapixel photographs and 4K video up to 60fps at 100Mbps. The Osmo Pocket also has built-in dual microphones with advanced noise-cancelling. Battery life is up to two hours shooting 4K video.
The camera uses a 1-inch integrated touch screen that provides a high quality live view as well as the ability to toggle through the various shooting modes, adjust settings, review footage and gain access to a full suite of creative features including:
– Face recognition
– Timelapse & Motionlapse;
– Two Panorama modes. 3X3 takes 9 images in total while 180-degree mode captures 4 images. Osmo Pocket software stitches them together automatically so you can focus on the framing of the scene.
And of course there is a selfie mode, because this is 2018 after all.
A universal port under the touchscreen allows users to connect their mobile devices that use iOS Lightning or USB-C. Upon connection, the new dedicated DJI Mimo app will automatically open and serves as a monitor, while in-app menu offers a variety of intelligent features and recording modes. StoryMode has a selection of preset music, video transitions and colouring and 10 ‘fun templates’. Pro Mode gives access to camera setting adjustments and exposure settings.
Osmo Pocket detects and illuminates low-lit scenes, which the DJI press release claims eliminates the need for a tripod.
There will be a range of accessories including a wireless module, gimbal controller wheel, filter setsand extension rod and moounts and adaptors.
Local RRP is $599 and the Osmo Pocket will be available in the next week or so. (Could be a big Christmas seller if distributor CR Kennedy can get them on to store shelves ASAP!)
