Momento Pro is inviting photographers and artists to enter the 2018 Australian and New Zealand Photobook Award.The Award is the leading antipodean contest dedicated to photo books, and was launched in 2011 to meet the growing interest in the craft.
Two categories, Photobook and Student, offers $13,500 worth of prizes and entries are judged on their excellence, originality, and ‘fitness for purpose’. Further judging criteria details can be found here.
Finalists’ work will tour as an exhibition to Melbourne Sydney, Brisbane, Wagga Wagga, Auckland and Wellington, with a People’s Choice Award open to the public.
Entrants are required to upload a digital copy by December 17, and submit a physical book by January 17.
Renowned Dutch photo book designer, Teun van der Heijden, who co-founded graphic design agency Heijdens Karwai, has been recruited as an international judge.
He will join judging chair Heidi Romano, accomplished festival director and founder of online photography magazine Unless You Will; along with Kriselle Baker director of Baker Douglas Publishing NZ; Mags King, managing photographic editor at Fairfax Media; Adam Harding, director of Centre of Contemporary Photography; Anita Totha director of Remote Photobooks NZ.
Entry fees are $25 for Australians and $24 for New Zealanders, and free for students.

Photobook Winner: $1,000 cash + $3,000 Momento Pro print credit
Student Winner: $500 cash + $1,500 Momento Pro print credit
Photobook Commended: $1,000 Momento Pro print credit
Student Commended: $500 Momento Pro print credit
Finalists: $500 Momento Pro print credit for up to eight entries
People’s Choice: $500 cash + $1,500 Momento Pro print credit
Books may be published, unpublished, self published, trade published, or published via an academic or cultural institution.
Finalists will be announced in early February 2019, and the Award ceremony will be hosted in Melbourne in March 2019.
