Fujifilm receives Phase One support

Phase One now offers dedicated Capture One software support for Fujifilm’s X and GFX series cameras.
The ‘software collaboration’ provides two versions of Capture One built for Fujifilm cameras.

The first version is access to free RAW file conversion software, Capture One Express Fujifilm, which supports all cameras.

The second is Capture One Pro Fujifilm, priced at $159 per annum. It offers basic tethered support for the GFX 50S, X-H1, all X-T models, and X-Pro2.

The 11.3 Capture One software update also includes support for all Fujifilm cameras.

For now the tethered support doesn’t include live view, but an upcoming Capture One release will integrate it.

Phase One says future development will integrate Fujifilm Film Simulations with Capture One, and provide enhanced tethered support for select professional Fujifilm cameras.

Fujifilm previously offered customers free Silkypix RAW file conversion software.

PhotoReview‘s technical editor, Margaret Brown, previously reported that not only is the Silkypix software slow and prone to crashing, it doesn’t extract a great result.

Elsewhere on the interwebs, others have made similar observations. They suggest Fujifilm photographers shoot JPEG, which often matches or betters the Silkypix RAW file conversion.

Not an ideal scenario for Fujifilm, which is pushing into the premium camera market with its high-end medium format GFX systems, and X-series APS-C systems. There’s a need for powerful RAW conversion software to match.
