Fresh from its acquisition of the valuable Lowepro and Joby brands, Vitec has announced a strategic collaboration with camera manufacturing’s up-and-comer, Sony.
The agreement will consolidate both companies positions ‘as the innovation leaders in their respective sectors’ according to the press release. The collaboration was announced on the occasion of Gitzo 100 year anniversary event in Tokyo.
‘We are proud to announce the agreement with Sony,’ said Marco Pezzana, CEO of the Vitec Group Photographic Division. ‘This collaboration sees our brands Manfrotto and Gitzo, leaders in the market of photo and video accessories, working side by side with the prestigious Sony brand, globally renowned for product excellence and superior technology, with the primary intent of collaborating to (sic) the development of even more innovative products for professional content creators, thus further increasing customer satisfaction and future business growth.’ (He then took as huge breath.)
The collaboration will begin with a brand new line of products developed for the Sony Alpha interchangeable lens camera range, to be launched commencing 2018. First will be a special version of the Manfrotto Befree tripod, a best-seller around the world in the lightweight traveller segment. This is to be unveiled at PhotoPlus in New York later this month (October 26).
The full range will include new Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods, plates, photo and video heads that are targeted at professionals. A customised version of Digital Director will complement the new range of products that will be showcased at events and tradeshows worldwide throughout 2018. The Digital Director is an advanced tether solution to control camera and lighting, comprised of three main components: a user-supplied iPad, an Apple Certified Digital Director iPad holder with a built-in microprocessor, and the Digital Director App.
