Sigma has stated its intent to launch a 16mm wide aperture, wide angle lens compatible with both the Sony E-mount (APS-C) and Micro Four Thirds cameras.
The new lens, to be in the Contemporary rather than the more elite Art range, will have a (35mm equivalent) 24mm focal length on a Sony E-mount camera and a 32mm focal length on a M43 camera.
The lens can be purchased in either mount and converted (for a fee) to the alternative (as far as PhotoCounter can understand!)
The Japanese-made lens features a stepping motor for fast, quiet and smooth autofocusing, a 9-blade aperture, a brass bayonet mount, 16 elements in 13 groups, and a dust- and splash-proof design.
‘This is the world’s first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness,’ said Sigma. ‘This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting.’
– And they will need to wait a little longer, as pricing and availability have yet to be announced, and the design and specs may still be changed between now and when the lens hits store shelves. Sigma added that it’s planning to add a telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras as well.
