Photo Direct NZ Ltd has been sold to competitor CarterNZ.
Photo Direct NZ was established in November 2005 to distribute equipment, wide format media and other photographic supplies to New Zealand’s independent photo retailers, copy centres and mass merchant stores.
CarterNZ, which was established just 8 months later, has also built up a range of equipment and supplies for large format print, dye sublimation, document binding and laminating.
‘The sale today of our NZ business to CarterNZ means that our customers now have an even greater range of quality brands, at competitive prices, with the ease of a simple one-stop shop,’ said Photo Direct NZ Director, Tracy Lints (pictured right). All products in the Photo Direct NZ range will continue to be available under the new ownership arrangement.
‘Having spent the past 12 years helping our customers establish those products in the market, it was important to us that they continue to be available with the change of ownership so we were delighted that all of our suppliers confirmed they are happy to continue supply uninterrupted.’
Photo Direct NZ’s stock has been transferred into Carter’s Auckland warehouse. Alan Bowman, who has been Photo Direct NZ’s representative since 2011, will continue in the business on the same contact number (021 629 982) but a wider range of products to offer his customers.
With the sale to CarterNZ Tracy Lints, one of the few senior women executives in the photo industry, is now fully retired and ‘working hard on getting to that single figure handicap.’

Photo Direct’s Australia business will continue as usual.
