CES: G9 X II among new Canon digicams

Canon announced February availability of its premium compact upgrade, the PowerShot G9 X Mark II, plus a superzoom PowerShot SX430 IS, and two slim IXUS models. Oh, and a new Legria camcorder.

The PowerShot G9 X Mark II uses the same 20-megapixel 1 inch-type CMOS sensor and 3x optical zoom lens as its predecessor with an upgrade to a DIGIC 7 processor for increased continuous shooting speeds (8.2 fps) and improved subject tracking in continuous AF mode.

Dual sensing image stabilisation offers 3.5-stops of shake correction (a 0.5-stop increase on the previous model) using parallel stabilisation processing. No local prices supplied. US price is US$529.

(NOTE: In the US, Canon is retailing a ‘video creators kit’ from its online store, bundling the camera with a Manfrotto tripod, a 32GB SanDisk card and an extra battery.)

The other three new compacts are equipped with 20 megapixel CCD sensors (1/2.3-inch size) and DIGIC 4+ processors. They have built-in Wi-Fi and can record movies at 720p resolution.

The PowerShot SX430 IS superzoom digicam (pictured right) has a 45x optical zoom range, along with advanced image stabilisation

The Ixus 185 has an 8x optical zoom lens and comes in black, red or silver. The Iixus 190 has a 10x optical zoom lens and comes in silver or black.

The new Legria HF R806 has a 32x optical zoom, augmented by digital zoom to 57x, an Auto Zoom Framing Assist function and ‘Intelligent’ image stabilisation. Users can change frame rates mid-recording for slow and fast motion effects. There is a Highlight Priority mode with improved backlight correction. The 7.5cm LCD touch screen enables users to easily frame shots and review recording on the spot. Audio Scene Select uses the optimum setting for any scene to get the best audio quality.
