Two new lenses from Nikon

Nikon has announced February availability of two new lenses, a full frame-compatible f4 300mm, and a APS-C format kit lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR II.

Nikkor_300mmmThe AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR (pictured right), ‘the world’s lightest 300mm full-frame fixed focal length AF lens’ is nearly 30 percent shorter and around 700 grams lighter than its predecessor. It utilises ‘Phase Fresnel’ optical technology to help correct chromatic aberration and reduce the overall size and weight of the lens.

Nikon’s newest FX-format lens also features four and a half stops of image stabilization, a VR Sport mode, VR tripod detection as well as electromagnetic aperture control, a Silent Wave Motor for quiet AF operation, ED glass for further controlling chromatic aberrations and Nano Crystal Coat for superior image quality.

Local availability is from January 29. No local pricing, but Nikon US is quoting US$2000.

The new 55-200mm Nikkor has three stops of image stabilization, according to Nikon and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for quiet AF operation. Available February 5 along with the D5500. No local prciing psupplied. The new lens is quoted by Nikon USA as US$350.
