Samsung moves into high-end memory cards

Samsung has announced two new ranges of high-speed SD and microSD cards. The Pro Plus and Evo Plus ranges join the existing Pro and Evo ranges of SD and microSD cards.

The Pro Plus range comes in 64GB and 32GB storage capacities. Samsung says the  64GB card can record approximately 110 minutes of 4K UHD video or 490 minutes of Full HD video in action cameras or DSLR cameras without the need to change or replace the memory card.

The slower Evo Plus cards are aimed at smartphone, tablet, compact camera and camcorder users. They have read and write speeds up to 80MB/s and 20MB/s (microSD), which provide UHS-I Speed Class 1 (U1) and Speed Class 10 performance, and have improved read performance compared to the existing Evo lineup.

The Evo Plus cards are available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Samsung says the 128GB version card can store a maximum of 10,940 photos, 30,670 songs or 980 minutes of Full HD video recording.

Samsung claims its new cards are robust. In addition to being temperature proof, X-ray proof, magnetic proof and shock proof, they ‘can now withstand 72 hours of being submerged in seawater.’

Global roll-out of the new ranges is from May. We are waiting for a response from Samsung Australia on local launch plans.
