Canon refreshes consumer camera range

CP+Canon has announced a new entry-level SLR and G-series flagship compact (as flagged by Photo Counter last week) along with five other new compacts and a macro ring flash accessory at CP+ today.

Canon_EOS1200DThe Canon EOS 1200D features an 18-megapixel CMOS APS-format sensor and Canon’s Digic 4 processor. It delivers Full HD movie recording (1080p) and ‘Video Snapshot mode’. US price of US$549 with 18-55mm lens indicates it’s a genuine entry-level model.

Launching with the EOS 1200D is Canon’s new Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II flash.

The EOS 1200D will be available in retail stores across Australia from March and the MR-14EXII from April. ‘Prices will be set at the dealers’ discretion.’ The MR-14EXII also carries a US MSRP of US$549.

G1XMkiiThe PowerShot G1X Mark II ‘boasts the best imaging performance ever seen in a Canon compact camera.’ It features a 12.8-megapixel, large CMOS sensor (1.5-inch or 18.7x14mm – larger than M4/3 format) and a f2 zoom lens. WiFi and NFC as well.

Available in April. ‘Prices set yada yada..’ US MSRP is US$799.

PowershotD30+SX700HSThe two other new Powershots are the waterproof PowerShot D30 and a slimline 30x model, the PowerShot SX700 HS.

Canon’s PowerShot D30 is capable of shooting underwater action at depths as low as 25m. It is shockproof for drops of up to 2m, freeze proof to -10 °C and dustproof.

The SX700 HS has a 30x zoom and can shoot Full HD 60p movies. Wi-Fi with NFC support.

The PowerShot SX700 HS will be available in retail stores across Australia from late March. The PowerShot D30 will be available in retail stores across Australia from April. No local pricing provided. US MSRP is $329 for the SX700 HS, US$349 for the SX700 HS.

CanonIxiCanon’s trio of Ixus (IXi?)are the Ixus155, Ixus150 and the Ixus145.

The 145 has a 16-megapixel sensor and 8x xoom. The also features a 16-meegapixel sensor and 8x optical zoom. The 155 has a 20-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom.

US MSRPs are US$119, US$129 and US$149
