QR Codes vouch for authenticity

The company behind the Manfrotto and Gitzo brands, Vitec, is adopting QR Code technology to improve the operation of the supply chain and guarantee authenticity of products on dealers’ shelves.

Dealers will first begin to notice the new QR Code stickers on the Manfrotto BeFree lightweight travellers' tripod.

The Italian-based Vitec has developed stickers with QR Codes for its tripod ranges, to be applied on product packaging labels. The stickers can’t be removed without damaging the packaging.

Products shipped to local distributor, Adeal, will begin to be delivered with the new QR Code from September, with a gradual implementation from then on.

Objectives are to better understand how the distribution channel works in order to prevent shipping problems and delays on product delivery to the customer and to ‘reassure customers, dealers and distributors of the originality and authenticity of our products and communicate our effort to prevent counterfeiting.’

‘This technology will help us to collect and analyse different information such as shipping data which will be useful for distributors and dealers and to spread, in the next future, also marketing contents (product website link, warranty, etc.) which are very appreciated by final customers,’ Vitec wrote in a email to customers.

The QR Codes are in addition to ‘Genuine Gitzo/Manfrotto Product’ security stickers.
