New lens and flash from Nikon

Nikon will add a new AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens and Speedlight SB-300 flashgun to its product line-up in September.

nikon-speedlight_sb300The SB-300 is a compact and lightweight Speedlight that weighs approximately 97 grams. Featuring a Guide number of 18/59 (ISO 100, m/ft), it can be powered by either AAA alkaline or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. The flash head can be tilted up to 120 degrees for bounce flash photography. The SB-300 is compatible with any Nikon DSLR that supports the Creative Lighting System (CLS), or a COOLPIX model that supports i-TTL flash control.

Local pricing not supplied but the US MSP is US$149.

Featuring a zoom range of 7.8x, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR lens covers a focal length range equivalent to 27-210mm in 35mm format. The optical design of this Type G AF-S DX lens uses 17 elements in 12 groups and includes one ED lens element and one aspherical element. Built-in vibration reduction claims camera shake compensation equivalent to four f-stops.

The Internal Focusing System is controlled by Silent Wave Motor technology and a separate focus ring is available for manual focusing. Seven diaphragm blades close to a circular aperture. The lens will focus to 45cm from the focal plane at all zoom positions, providing a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.23x. It is 97 mm long with a maximum diameter of 78 mm and weighs 490 grams.

Pricing is ‘at the discretion of local retailers’. US pricing is US$599.
