IDEA CEO resigns

Katherine Singson, chief executive officer of IDEA has resigned, five months out from the 2013 Digital Show in Melbourne in September.

Katherine_SingsonIt’s believed she resigned last Friday, April 5.

‘Katherine will return to the USA later this month and as such has sadly tendered her resignation,’ IDEA president James Murray (Nikon Australia) told Photo Counter.

‘Rest assured there is a strong and capable team in place at IDEA working on the up-coming projects including The Digital Show, fully supported by the board.’

Ms Singson started with IDEA – then PICA – in late 2011 and assumed the CEO role in mid-2012 from long-time executive, Paul Curtis.

Ms Singson is an American who worked in executive roles in California’s Silicon Valley for several start-ups and established brands, including Next Computer, Apple and Pixar Animation Studios.

After some time in Europe, she has spent the last few years in Australia working with Microsoft on its X-Box business. She has a background in consumer marketing, public relations and strategic partnerships.

Her selection and appointment was strongly endorsed by previous IDEA president, Dave Marshall as part of a push to expand the association from one focused on promoting photography, to digital entertainment and ‘convergence’. This also involved a change of name from ‘Photo Imaging Council’ to ‘Imaging and Digital Entertainment  Association’.

No further details are available at this time.
