Fujifilm flags new retail inkjet printer

Fujifilm in Japan and Europe has announced the Frontier-S inkjet lab system, ‘a compact and high quality, new concept inkjet printer, which enables photo retailers to have a system corresponding to retailers’ printing services, installation space and budget.’

FrontierSThe Frontier-S will be on the Fujifilm stand at The Digital Show in Melbourne in September. Pricing and local availability details will be available closer to launch date.

Somewhat like dye transfer systems which ‘daisy-chain’ several printers to increase throughput and range, the Frontier-S system can include up to four inkjet printers.

The new Frontier-S inkjet printers use a six-ink (dye-based) ‘Vividia D-Photo’ inkset and output at up to 360 postcard prints per hour.  Maximum print size is 210x1000mm (8×39-inch). Standard resolution is 720dpi. Footprint of the printers is just 0.2 square metres 430x460mm).

Print output can be chosen from natural colour reproduction (which the press release says is similar to the look of silver halide prints) and vivid colour reproduction. Lustre and gloss paper options are available, and paper rolls (65m) come in either 4-, 5-, 6- or 8-inch widths.

The system was debuted at Photo Next 2013 in Tokyo on June 25.
