PMA has announced its program of ‘Info’tography’ seminars and workshops for 2013, with top pro photographer Nick Rains first cab off the rank in early February, followed by Australia’s’ post-capture guru (Dr) Les Walkling in March.
The calendar to date features five events in total, with Glyn Lavender in June, Shelton Muller in September and June Anderson in November.
Nick Rains is a landscape specialist who has had work published in Australian Geographic, Outback magazine and GEO (Germany). He is currently editor of Better Digital magazine and is a well-regarded as a communicator and photographic educator.
Les Walking, former program director of Media Arts, RMIT, has an unparalleled reputation for communicating the intricacies of Photoshop’s tools and techniques, and is a recognised fine art photographer, with work in the collections of The Center for Creative Photography, Arizona, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, and The National Gallery of Victoria.
The format for the tours is a 3-hour evening seminar ($69) following by a separate full-day workshop ($299) the following day. Nick Rains will visit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, while Les Walking will also include Perth in his tour in the second half of March.
PMA is seeking sponsorship support from the major camera groups (Camera House, Ted’s Cameras, Paxtons, DCW and Leading Edge) to help promote the events in exchange for a range of promotional benefits including having a company spokesperson introduce and chair sessions, attendance of staff members at seminars, and logo recognition.
‘The success of the program will be dependant on the major groups promoting to their customer base,’ said PMA Australia director, Peter Rose.
‘Our overall objective is to generate sales for PMA members through education.
‘As an industry we are all conscious of the need to provide a point of difference as specialty retailers…this initiative is aimed to assist that objective.’
PMA will also promote other photographic courses being conducted by PMA member stores on the PMA website.
