Ideas Exchange, Hot Picks to spice up show

US retail marketing consultant Bill McCurry will once again be involved in the Australian trade exhibition and conference in Melbourne this year, where he will have several official roles.

As a result, the always-valuable Marketing Ideas Exchange will be back on the schedule this year, as will the popular Hot Picks event on the trade show floor.

We asked Bill for a few words on his plans for the show:

Marketing Idea Exchange (Thursday dinner)

Quite simply, if you keep doing what you’ve been doing you’re lucky to keep getting what you’ve got. You won’t get better by doing the same old thing.

This dinner will allow imaging leASaders to share thoughts and listen to new ideas from others in the industry. After a full day of outstanding sessions at the conference, attendees can gather in an informal environment, meet new people, share and evaluate new ideas. I’ll bring a few thoughts from Europe and North American and there will be brilliant Australians there to add a thought or two.

– And let’s not simply sit next to our old mates! How can you get new ideas if you’re always talking to the same people? There are great changes that have happened and are continuing to happen, so let’s listen to different people with different ideas to foster unique responses to marketplace changes.

There is limited seating for this special event, which will be held at the Pumphouse Hotel (via courtesy buses). Places will be issued on a first come, first served basis, so be quick to complete the ticket order form and return to PMA by tomorrow, May 4. Hot Picks returns!

By popular demand, we’ll be doing Hot Picks again. ‘Reporters’ will scour the floor Friday morning and gather at 3:00pm to share their Hot Pick of the show – their nominations for the best money-making thing they have found, presented in 45-90 seconds each.

The audience will hear dozens of products reviewed, and they can leave the session (which will be on the trade show floor) and track down the Hot Picks which interest them before the show closes on Friday. You’ll be amazed how many Hot Picks are selected from stands you’ve already been to – and the reporter saw it while you missed it!

Happens every year – too much stuff to see . . . Hot Picks helps you find what you missed.

Kiwis-only session

I had hoped to get to NZ to do a session for the NZ PMA members, but the scheduling just didn’t fit. So, I told them if they want to get together Friday night in Melbourne we’ll have a ‘secret session’ (shhh!) with just Kiwis talking about how retailers in other parts of the world have addressed industry changes and challenges. We are still putting together the details – all registered New Zealanders will get an email with details.

Personally, I’m really looking forward to the conference. The speakers that are lined up are top notch, and my plan is to be in every session possible Thursday and Friday then spend Saturday at the stands . . . should be outstanding show!

Hope to see you there!

Be there, good food, booze included and a great opportunity to network.
