Epson A3+ printer retails below $400

Epson Australia has released a photo enthusiast’s A3+ inkjet printer, the Artisan 1430, at an RRP of just $399.

Epson says the Artisan 1430 wide format printer will suit photo enthusiasts and advanced amateurs who want to print gallery quality images up to A3+, and graphic designers and CAD users who need finely detailed large format prints.

The 1430 produces borderless prints from 4×6 to A3+, as well as CD/DVD printing. It offers wireless networking and easy-to-use mobile printing apps.

Epson Claria photographic ink in six high-capacity individual cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Cyan and Light Magenta) is matched with Epson’s Advanced MicroPiezo printhead and Variable Sized Droplet technology to deliver highly accurate placement of ink droplets in as many as five sizes down to a tiny 1.5 picolitres, while optimising print speed on the selected print mode.

Epson says Claria photographic ink supports a wider colour gamut than traditional photo printing technologies and is more resistant to fading than earlier dye–based inks, having been strengthened at a molecular level to resist fading caused by light and oxidised gasses such as ozone. Claria ink photo prints have a potential album storage life estimated at up to 200 years, and up to 98 years in a glass frame.

Built-in Wi-Fi Certified (802.11n) wireless networking allows multiple users to easily share the Artisan 1430, and Epson Connect including Epson iPrint allows printing of web pages, documents, and photos on-the-go from a smartphone, iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device, with remote printing also possible via email print.

The Artisan 1430 is PictBridge compatible, allowing direct printing via cable from enabled cameras and other storage devices.

With a range of up to 60 different recommended Epson media types and finishes the Artisan 1430 is versatile, supporting diverse image printing needs with speed and ease.

Included image enhancement tools automatically evaluate and correct digital images for colour and lighting, while the advanced face detection software adjusts the colour to ensure beautiful natural skin tones and removes red-eye.

The Epson Artisan 1430 (RRP $399) is available now.

It must be remembered that with the continued falling retail so does the volume of profit per sale. Our overheads continue to soar with our staff requiring a ever steeper learning curve.
It will reach a point where decent mainstream retail will seek other items to sell as it takes one hour to sell a printer with a gross margins of say $90, and the same hour could be used selling high-end gear with a margin of several hundred.
Like so many before we have quietly dropped some of the lines that were traditionally carried as every sale cost money regardless of the gross margin.
Overheads per square metre are huge and each square meter must pay its way the same as each staff member or they/it will be deleted.
