Canon offers photo courses nationwide

Canon Australia used The Digital Show as its platform to announce the launch of a new education program, Canon Academy, consisting of a series of face-to-face courses and workshops, as well as online courses available through the Canon World of EOS website.

Canon says courses will be suitable for photographers from entry-level to professional, and be available across Australia at around 30 locations including most major regional towns and outer city suburbs. Canon has partnered with URCreative, the photography training division of the Creative Institute of Australia, to lead Canon Academy’s portfolio of courses and workshops.

The content is designed for aspiring photographers as well as those simply wanting to get more out of their Canon EOS DSLR camera. It will include five types of courses, six workshops and two online offerings which will complement existing online tutorials the Canon World of EOS website.

Courses range from an ‘Introduction to DSLR’ to an ‘Advanced e-Learning Course’, as well as specialist workshops in Architecture, Night Photography,  Landscape, Studio, Fashion and Portraiture photography.

Courses attract fees, but at under current commercial rates. For instance the ‘Introduction to DSLR Photography’ course consists of 5 x 3 hour sessions over five weeks for $260, while a bundle of the entire five courses in the series runs over over 17 weeks (3 hours per week) and is charged at $1330.

Rebecca Pearson, Canon EOS assistant brand manager responsible for The Canon Academy said at The Digital Show launch that Canon would consider partnering with retailers who are interested in being involved.

‘We are definitely open to conversations with retailers as to what might be possible,’ she said.

‘Canon’s World of EOS is designed take people’s photography to the next level through inspiration, creative challenges and skills development at all levels, including the rapidly growing number of first-time DSLR camera users,’ said Ms Pearson in the Canon Academy press release.

‘Canon Academy is a natural extension of this experience and we are excited to be providing a comprehensive learning opportunity in a range of formats and locations for people of all skill levels – from the complete novice, and upwards.’

Greg Lee-Conway, URCreative managing director, says that students will achieve tangible improvements in their fundamental skills as well as an increased appreciation for the creative potential of photography.

Attendees at the Digital Show were offered a 10 percent discount on Canon Academy courses for a limited period of time.
