Three new compacts from Canon

August 23, 2011: Canon Australia has announced three new compact cameras this week – two super slim additions to the IXUS range, the 8x optical zoom IXUS 230 HS (below right) and ‘the world‟s slimmest 12x optical zoom’, the IXUS 1100 HS (below left); and the 12x Powershot SX 150 IS.

To support the extended zoom ranges in the new models, Canon has adopted a new image stabilisation technology, the ‘Intelligent Image Stabiliser’. At the press of a shutter button, the camera automatically selects the optimum IS for each scene, recognising a selection of six scenes: normal photos; macro shooting; shooting while walking; using a tripod; panning; and importantly, shooting with a telephoto zoom.

‘The Intelligent Image Stabiliser automatically controls blurring by reducing the effects of hand-held camera shake so you can shoot amazing quality photos and video in the most difficult conditions,’ said James Lai, assistant brand manager, Digital Cameras, Canon Australia. ‘This will make a great difference to hand-held shooting results when using the high-zoom range that these compact cameras offer.’

The latest IXUS models in the Canon Digital Camera range also feature Canon’s TruCapture technology and Full HD movie recording capabilities. TruCapture comprises three key technologies: Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS), which cuts hand-held shake for blur-free photos; DIG!C 4 Processor for colour rich images; and a High Sensitivity Sensor for true-to-life images even in low light situations.

At just 21.9mm, Canon says the IXUS 1100 HS is the world’s slimmest 12x Optical Zoom model. It also comes equipped with a wide touch screen, including the new ‘Touch Shutter’ feature, which allows the user to touch the point on the screen to be photographed (even if the subject moves, focus continues to be tracked), and then shoots when you release your finger.

Canon has also announced the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS, an upgrade to the PowerShot SX130 IS, which also has a 12x Optical Zoom, starting at a wide 28mm and featuring the Intelligent Image Stabiliser function.
