Seven new Coolpix from Niko

August 25, 2011: Following hard on the heels of announcements from Canon and Sony, Nikon has chosen this week to introduce no less than seven new Coolpix models.

Of most interest are the Coolpix AW100 – Nikon’s entry into the all-weather category, and the flagship P7100.

Accompaying these are five new S-series models, the Coolpix S8200, S6200, S4150, S1200pj and S100.

The AW100 has a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor, 5x lens, 1080p video capture, built-in GPS, and is water resistance to 33 feet and is shockproof and ‘freezeproof’ as well.

The P7100 has a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, 7.1x zoom lens, 921k-dot tilting LCD, and manual controls.

The new S-series cameras include Vibration Reduction, Scene Auto Selector and EXPEED C2 digital image processing, and Nikon’s Smart Portrait System incorporating In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority AF, Smile Mode, Blink Warning and Skin Softening.

The S1200pj features an built-in projector and compatibility with Apple devices.

No local pricing has been announced, although in other markets such as the US, pricing has been supplied.

Time does not permit a re-writing of the seven press releases Nikon Australia has supplied. The most convenient source of information Photo Counter has managed to find for the new cameras (excluding the S4150) is the Nikon US site Press Center.
