Pros shooters strut their stuff on larger stands

June 23, 2011: Major distributors Canon, Nikon and Epson have taken up the challenge of making the Imaging & Entertainment Expo more inspirational and education-oriented by featuring top Australian professional photographers as drawcards to attract keen enthusiasts to their stands.

Canon will occupy two stands at the show, one of which is dedicated to its 50,000-member ‘World of EOS’ initiative.

Highlights of the World of EOS stand include live presentations by renowned EOS pro shooters at regular intervals from 10.30am.

‘The 2011 Digital Life Expo marks the start of big things for Canon in the remaining six months of this year and is a great opportunity to engage directly with our consumers and bring our campaigns to life,’ said Jason McLean, director, Canon Consumer Imaging, Canon Australia (pictured right).

‘We’ve managed our way very well through the challenges of the first half posed by the Japan earthquake situation and, with product supply improving, we’re investing heavily for growth in the second half.

‘The passion for imaging in Australia is undeniable, with a 65 percent increase in photos taken in the last four years, and as market leader Canon aims to inspire and celebrate creative imaging at all levels to grow the photo category.’

The Canon stand features the work of six EOS Masters, including Graham Monro, Mike Langford and Chris McLennan. For working professional photographers, the PMA show also coincides with the launch of the new Canon EOS Professional website and enhanced member benefits. Canon Professional Services team members will be on the stand for consultations as well as to facilitate trials of telephoto lenses from the 9m elevated lens platform.

On Saturday June 25 from 2-4pm, Canon EOS professionals Darren Jew, Stephen Dupont, Craig Golding and Simon Harsent will take part in open interviews to give insight into their world and provide creative inspiration. These acclaimed photographers are featured in Canon’s ‘Seconds/with’ vignettes on the new Canon EOS Professional microsite, which exists to provide community membership for working professionals and a window into the professional world for non-pro photographers.

Canon also supports the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards judging and touring APPA exhibition at the show, as well as contributing a display of finalists from the Canon World Press Photo exhibition.

In addition, Canon has sponsored a Canon EOS Masters ‘Huddle with the Greats’ series:
– Great Landscape Photography with Jackie Ranken – Friday June 24, 11am-12pm;
– Great Wedding Photography with Yervant – Friday June 24, 12pm – 1pm.

Epson also has top pro photographers as guest speakers, in addition to a large and diverse range of photographic papers, printers, projectors, and scanners working and on display.

Epson is also sponsoring an address by Tony Hewitt in the ‘Huddle with the Greats’ series at the conference on Friday 24, 2-3pm.

The Epson stand will also feature the first Australian showing of Epson’s Hot Press Fine Art papers for professional photographers, fine artists and print reproducers.

The Epson Hot Press range includes Epson Hot Press Bright – a smooth paper with a bright white point, Hot Press Natural – a smooth paper with a warm white point, Cold Press Bright – a textured paper with a bright white point, and Cold Press Natural – a textured paper with a warm white point, all in roll and cut sheet formats.

Epson has also assisted the organisers by sponsoring the accompanying large exhibition of images, a regular attraction of PMA shows for the past 10 years. In addition, the Epson photo gallery will display the winning image and runner-up in the Epson International Pano Awards.

As the leading large format printer supplier to the photo industry, Epson will have the eight-colour Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and ten-colour 4900 A2 format printers, the eight-colour Epson Stylus Pro 7890 A1 format printer, the ten-colour Epson Stylus Pro 9900 44-inch printer, and the Epson Stylus Pro 11880 64-inch printer on the exhibition floor.

Nikon Australia is kicking off its plans for the Expo with a Nikon Ambassador meet and greet cocktail event this evening (Thursday, June 23) for the My Nikon Life website community, with acclaimed photographers such as Jasin Boland, Mark Watson and Christian Blanchard in attendance in a personal and intimate setting.

Nikon will run a series of 17 free Nikon School workshops over the three days of the Expo, featuring leading photographers such as the three named above, as well as Marcus Bell, David Dare-Parker, Tony Mott, David Oliver and Rocco Ancora.
