Olympus, Quicksilver co-brand on new Tough

January 27, 2010:Olympus has announced a limited edition version of the new Olympus TG-610 waterproof camera to mark the Quicksilver Pro surfing championship on the Gold Coast, February 26 – March 9.

The limited edition Quicksilver-branded TG-610 will only be available in Australia, and the Quicksilver Pro event is the ‘world premiere’ of the new camera. It will be on sale at the Quicksilver store at the Gold Coast surfing event and then available via retailers from mid-March.

In addition, two-time World Surfing Champion and ‘Olympus Tough ambassador’ Tom Carroll will be in attendance promoting the TG-610.

Olympus said the launch of the Quiksilver-branded TG-610 cements a long-standing relationship between the two companies. ‘For us, partnering with Quiksilver for our Tough camera range made perfect sense,’ said Marc Radatt, managing director, Olympus Imaging Australia.

‘The Quiksilver brand is all about active sports and excellence in performance, and that’s exactly what the Olympus Tough camera range represents – the ability to deliver amazing images under any conditions’.

Key features of the TG-610 include:
– Waterproof to 5m, shockproof to 1.5m and freezeproof to – 10°C;
– 14 megapixel sensor, with 5x wide-angle optical zoom lenses and dual image stabilisation;
– HD Movie & HDMI Control – high-definition video (HD video) delivers a broadcast-quality movie experience when played back on a high-definition television (HDTV);
– 3D Photo Mode – captures two shots of a scene from two different angles to create still photos that can be viewed in 3D;
– Eye-Fi Card Compatibility – allows automatic wireless uploading of images to the website or PC of your choice. (Note – Eye-Fi cards not yet distributed in Australia or New Zealand);
– New Magic Filters – create special artistic effects in still images and/or movies directly in the camera;
– In-Camera Panorama – offers quick and easy panoramic shots;
– AF Tracking – tracks a moving subject automatically and keeps it in focus for optimal image quality.

Pricing of the new camera is yet to be confirmed.
