Maxwell lens a hand to Photo Marathon

March 22, 2011: Maxwell International is supporting the Canberra Photo Marathon, held this weekend, by supplying $1700 worth of Lowepro and Tamron gear as prizes.

A photo marathon is a competition in which participants must take a series of images in specific themes in a set time, in this case 12 themes in 12 hours. The themes will be announced at the start of the marathon.

All the entries will be judged and distinctions will be awarded to:
– Top 3 portfolio entries;
– Top 3 entries of every one of the 12 themes.

Prizes include:
– The new Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD lens, valued at $849;
– Three Lowepro Versapack 200 AW backpacks, valued at $169 each;
– Three Lowepro Compuday Photo 250 backpacks, valued at $119.

Tickets to the Canberra Photo Marathon must be booked in advance and some categories are already sold out.

Photo marathons began in Europe in the late 1980s and the concept spread through to North America, Asia and Africa. Organiser Chris Oosthuizen says that he took part in a photo marathon in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2007 and, after moving to Canberra three years ago, noticed the city’s advantages.

‘It’s very accessible, compared to cities like Sydney, if you have to drive from one location to another,’ he said. ‘It’s easy to get around and is a nice combination of city and nature, and is filled with landmarks.’

The Canberra Photo Marathon is also supported by Ted’s Cameras and Photo Review magazine.
