Kodak goes direct

May 4, 2011: Kodak Australia is now operating a full online Kodak Store from within the kodak.com.au website, operated by eBay ‘Power Seller’ Extrastock Pty Ltd.

The Kodak Store, which has been operating since last December, offers a full range of Kodak products, promoting itself as carrying ‘the largest selection of Kodak cameras, digital frames, printers, and acccessories that you can find… anywhere.’

All products are covered by a 30-day money back refund. Shipping is free for an order over $200 and a flat-rate $9 for lesser-priced items.

Kodak Professional film and paper is offered in addition to the full range of Kodak consumer products.

Kodak provided the following statement to Photo Counter on the initiative: ‘Adding transactional abilities was simply a natural extension of the corporate website to allow customers a convenient way to purchase their selected items.

‘It is a channel strategy that exists around the world, with online Kodak stores currently established in the US, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

‘We greatly value our retailer relationships but understand there is an increasing need for a multi-channel approach.’

Products all appear to be offered at full RRP and include latest releases (including the new release Playsport announced this week). A $14.99 complementary Kodak bungee strap was being offered with all digital camera purchases through the site.

The Kodak Store site is operated by Extrastock Pty Ltd, based in the Sydney suburb of Baukham Hills, with the software platform provided by US-based ChannelAdvisor Corporation.

Extrastock runs eBay stores in a range of channels, it’s store for camera gear being called The Photo Spot. This had a limited range at time of writing, comprising mainly run-out models of Lowepro bags. Extrastock also runs separate e-retailing websites in each of its channels of home theatre, kitchenware, computers and power tools and another site, onedaysale.com.au – the function of which is self-explanatory.

Kodak’s online printing services platform is separate from The Kodak Store and (unlike the Kodak Store) offers a pick-up-in-store option for consumers.

The Kodak New Zealand website does not offer online product sales at this time.
