Head On portrait winners announced

May 10, 2011: The national Head On Portrait Prize was announced on Thursday May 5, at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington by NSW Crown Prosecutor, Mark Tedeschi.

Mr Tedeschi (pictured above at podium, courtesy John Swainston, Maxwell International) is a talented portrait photographer in his own right, whose work hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.

The three first prize winners (one of the unique characteristics of this rapidly growing national award), were Shauna Greyerbiehl, James Brickwood and Stephen Dupont.

This was Dupont’s third winning image in the eight years of the awards.

Founder Moshe Rozenzweig thanked and acknowledged the hundreds of supporters who turned up on the night, as well as principal sponsor, Canon, and more than a dozen other industry supporters. The Portrait Prize attracted over 2600 entries.

The Head On Photo Festival – a highlight of which is the Portrait Prize – involves 130 exhibitions in more than 80 venues including galleries, cafes and parks around Sydney exhibiting local and international photography. Nearly 70 public and commercial galleries, including the Museum of Sydney and the Manly Art Gallery, will be taking part.

The festival continues in Sydney until early June, as part of the Canon EOS Festival of Photography.
