GE releases $199 waterprooof mini camcorder

January 12, 2001: Tasco Sales has announced the release of the GE DV1 mini camcorder, waterproof to 5 metres and ‘drop-proof’ at heights of up to 1.5 metres.

The DV1 can shoot video at full 1080p HD and captures still at 5 megapixels.

It’s available in a range of bright colours – lime green, citrus orange, ocean blue, velvet red and gunmetal grey. A 2.5 inch LCD display, SD card slot, Lithium-ion battery and HDMI-out come with the package, and it utilises an integrated USB connector, enabling content to be easily uploaded and shared on YouTube, Flickr or other social networking websites.

The point-and-shoot DV1 also features a 4x digital zoom, optical image stabilisation technology, underwater colour mode, automatic face detection and red eye removal.

According to Tasco’s Stewart Pickersgill, general manager – Digital Camera Sales Division, the exploding popularity of online video content coincides with camcorders becoming smaller and easier to use.

‘Australians have developed a huge appetite for online video content, with the average internet user watching more than seven hours of video per month,’ he said.

‘With mini camcorders like GE’s DV1, absolutely anyone can become a video producer. Not only is it a cinch to shoot with, with the built-in USB connector multimedia content can be uploaded to YouTube or facebook in a flash.”

GE cameras are distributed in Australia by Tasco. Stockists include selected Harvey Norman, Retravision and Leading Edge stores and camera specialists. RRP is $199.
