Free website offer from Google and MYOB

March 3, 2011: Google and MYOB have announced Getting Aussie Business Online, a nationwide initiative to give small businesses an (initially) free website that’s easy to set up and maintain.

Google and MYOB hope to sign up 50,000 businesses to the program this year.

Two-thirds of Australian small businesses don’t have a website, according to MYOB research, with businesses typically citing a lack of time, knowledge, and money as the chief barriers to getting online.
MYOB says that Getting Aussie Business Online is designed to take away these barriers.

Australian business owners can visit the Getting Aussie Business Online website (http://www.gettingbusinessonline.com.au) to set up their own free website using the MYOB Atlas website creation tool.

To get started, businesses must enter their ABN, a phone number, and a few details about their business such as street address, preferred contact method, and opening hours. The website is then available immediately. The Getting Aussie Business Online offer also includes a free .com.au domain for two years and resources to help businesses add information and features to their website over time.

‘At MYOB, we’re passionate about making business life easier and making it easy to build a professional website is an important part of that,’ said Tim Reed, CEO of MYOB. ‘With Getting Aussie Business Online and the MYOB Atlas website solution, we’re enabling Aussie businesses to make the most of the Internet and take advantage of being connected to the digital economy.

‘Our dream is to help over one million Aussie businesses who currently don’t have a website to get online. Our initial goal is to get at least 50,000 businesses set up with a free website this year.”

After the first year, businesses can choose to pay $5 per month on a pay-as-you-go basis to maintain their website using MYOB Atlas. Websites can be cancelled at any time. The .com.au domain is free for the first two years, after which businesses can expect to pay $30 to renew for two years.
