Canon puts photos first at Festival

May 10, 2011: Canon Australia has announced the second Canon EOS Festival of Photography, bringing together four Canon-sponsored series of exhibitions in Sydney, with a major exhibition slated for Brisbane as well.

The Festival runs for three months from May 5 to July 27 and includes: Head On Photo Festival; Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs); World Press Photo (WPP); and, The Sydney Morning Herald Photos – 1440: A Day, a Minute, a Moment exhibition.

‘The Canon EOS Festival of Photography is founded on our continued support of the photographic industry through showcasing the highest level of photographic excellence,’ said Chris Macleod, brand manager, EOS, Canon Australia.

‘As the leading DSLR camera brand in Australia, Canon EOS aims to inspire photographers of all levels to explore the creative possibilities that photography offers.

‘Canon’s research shows that Australians are increasingly communicating through images with people taking more photos than ever before. We recognise a growing passion for creative photography in this country and we aim to encourage and support this by bringing inspirational and award-winning work to the broader public,’ said Macleod.

Canon has also continued the online initiative of the festival, which draws together these four Canon-sponsored events under one online banner – the Canon EOS Festival of Photography website.

Australian audiences have more options to get involved, with three festival-themed competitions running concurrently through the Canon Australia Facebook page. Keen photographers are encouraged to put their own skills to the test – with the opportunity to win great prizes. The 20 most popular entrants of each competition will be judged by a Canon jury to determine the ultimate winners. Additionally, the most popular entry as voted by the Facebook community will win the People’s Choice Award. The main prize for each competition is a Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR cameras plus an 18-55mm lens valued at RRP$1,749; and for the People’s Choice Award winner, a Canon PowerShot G12 valued at RRP$799.
